[21:20] Separement - Day 3
Woke up at 0315, allegedly quite hungry. Wasn't happy with milk and ended up having 100mL of milk and went back to bed until 0715. We got up and, in the process of our morning ablutions Gabe did his first potty-based poo! Behold: Poo, in a potty

After appropriate celebrations we got dressed and had breakfast, cereal for me and a double-egg patty with cheese and beerwurst slivers and hand picked blueberries for Gabe. We went to Little Gym which was teeming with people and did upper body exercises. The Skill of the Day was "Hanging Off A Bar", but Gabe was too tall and when I let go he just ended up with his feet on the ground and his hands up in the air on the bar looking at me with an expression that indicated he was expecting something perhaps a little harder. We detoured past home to collect our library books then headed to The Posh Bagel for elevenses. I let Gabe pick so we ended up with a Nutty Banana Crepe, which he was thrilled with: Gabe with a maniacal, Nuttella-covered grin

We headed over to the library for Story Time and learned about Humphrey the Whale, who visited San Francisco in 1985, and Anansi the spider and how he fooled the whale and the elephant into ceding control of the sea and jungle to him. We decided to have a quick look at Little Stompers on the way home because I've been meaning to check it out for ages and played in the back room there for a while then finally headed for home. There was some yawning going on but he wasn't actually asleep so we decided to have lunch before bed. He had alfredo past and lychees and a cup of milk then went to bed from 1230 to 1430.

We read some books and did a little cleaning up and putting away of the washing and other menial tasks then decided that, since there was still no-one at the park that we'd go and have a swim instead. We met our French neighbours at the pool and Gabe and Mahel did a bit of non-synchronised jumping. I'd packed our bag and left it downstairs with Gabe whilst I went to graba towel and when I returned (mere seconds later) he'd unpacked it all over the kitchen. Apparently I missed wherever he threw the floaty-ring so he only had his arm floaties but he seemed to manage quite well with only them (ie he didn't completely sink when I let go). After an hour and a half we exited the pool with grand plans for the rest of the evening but, by the time we exited the shower it was clear that those plans would have to be curtailed. In an effort to reduce washing up (we're bachelors remember), we both ate our stew from the same bowl and shared our piece of toast off the high-chair table and, once it was finished, we had some yoghurt and blueberries out of the same bowl. We then headed to bed and, by 1900, we were both asleep. I just got up to write this post and I'm going back to bed :)

[22:43] Separement - Day 2
I remember why I stopped blogging now, it's hard to get to the end of the day, and then relive it all at bed time :)

Foolishly, I didn't get to bed until midnight but Gabe was somewhat gentle with me, sleeping through until 0615 when he woke me up by carefully peeling my eyelids off my eyeballs. No potty-wees. Had Cheerios with blueberries and tricolour toast (vegemite, peanut butter, honey and banana) for breakfast then high tailed down to Castro St to catch the 0757 Caltrain express; which we missed. Caught the 0827 instead and got to San Francisco at 0916.

We had no plan, other than to go to the city so we just walked down Townsend St to the water and then wandered along The Embarcadaro to Cupid's Span where we stopped for a nappy change and a snack of lychees. Due to the wonders of certain peoples digestive tract (or perhaps it was the cold) we stopped again on the other side of Cupid's Span for another nappy change and more snacks (raisins and Cheerios). Walked on down to Pier 1 and stopped to have a look at, Quebec libre! (aka Vaillancourt Fountain), a fancy waterfall in Embarcadaro Plaza which is exciting in that you can climb a set of stairs and get inside the waterfalls - Gabe was well impresed! We then went and watched the industrial sprinkler that was watering the lawn until someone turned it off. It was getting late so we wandered back up to the Caltrain station in a zigzaggy fashion, mostly up Market until we reached 3rd street. We got back to the station in time to have a hot chocolate at The Creamery and finish our lychees before catching the 1207 train back to Mountain View. It was 1320 when we got back, well past nap time, and Gabe promptly fell asleep the second he hit his car seat and obligingly stayed asleep (with a little cajoling) after a nappy change when we got home.

He slept from 1400 through to 1630 (I had a nap too) and then we hit the park because I was under the mistaken impression that everyone else would be there too. It was desolate when we got there but a little French dude with a blue hat rocked up (I didn't get his name) and they played catch and chase each other up and down the slides until 1800 when we went to Megan and Brian and Liams' place for dinner. Having not seen each other for days (two of them) they were overjoyed and danced and played and poked each other in the eye and then we had corn and sausages and salad and icecream with berries for dinner and played some more. Hometime at 2030, in bed by 2100 but not very happy about it, finally asleep by 2130. I swear we're going to bed early(er?) tomorrow!

[21:55] Separement - Day 1
Shona has gone to the UK for a week or so and, since this is the first time our little family has been seperated for any significant length of time I've decided to dust of the ole blog so that she can keep up to speed with the incredibly awesome things that we get up to! I suspect that, for everyone who's not Shona, this is going to be a) boring and b) TMI :)

It wasn't an auspicious start, after a teary farewell by several members of our party at the security rabbit-run at SFO we headed home and Gabe fell asleep all the way back to Mountain View. We decided that we'd have burgers for dinner so we went via the In-N-Out on the corner and grabbed a Flying Dutchman for Gabe and a "Protein Style" burger for me (from the secret menu). We ate as soon as we got home then hit the shower and the bed shortly after but apparently the emotionly fraught afternoon had proven too much and we had a "cry 'till you spew" incident. Finally got to bed around 2215. Better luck tomorrow?

Up at 0630. Did wee on the potty (and only the potty) then put the washing away and went down for breakfast. Gabe had a double egg with cheese on top and hand-picked (from my cereal bowl) blueberries. We then had a nappy change, donned our cleaning gear and had a "cleaning the upstairs bathroom of last nights vomit" party.

Went to Safeway for quarters and some more cleaning supplies then to PetSmart's Doggie Day Camp and watched the puppies playing. Eventually we tired of the frolicking and, pausing only to wreak havoc with the fish signage, we proceeded to Bed, Bath and Beyond for some storage shopping.

We detoured past home to drop off our purchases and load up with snacks and then went to Google for Dodgeball and to see Jeanette and P.J.. Unfortunately, and somewhat as expected due to the overlap of game-time with nap-time, Gabe lost the plot and handicapped me for a couple of rounds (although everyone very politely declined to throw at me whilst I had him). We finished the game and headed home at 1230, he was asleep by 1300.

I had a shower while Gabe slept, he woke up at 1350 but, with judicious application of 100mL of milk and by graciously offering my shoulder as a pillow substitute, he and (since I was now the pillow) I slept until 1600. We got up and put on the washing and pigged out on Gomito Alfredo with peas and Dittmers bacon that Shona prepared for us before she left. Also had some beerwurst (also from Dittmers) and half a strawberry yoghurt. We headed back and moved the washing to the dryer and collected all of our stuff for a dinner date with James, Jeanette, P.J. and Michael at the Green Elephant. We were a smidge early so we popped into Piazzas ExpensiveFine Foods and discovered that Lychees were available so grabbed some of them and headed to the restaurant. Gabe was remarkably well behaved, probably because the fire extinguisher that was right behind Michael kept him amused for the majority of the time he wasn't seated. When he was seated he ate 7 lychees and one prawn (and a couple of vegetables). I forgave him for not eating since he'd only just had "lunch" and we decided that we should go to the park so we headed home and then to Thaddeus Park. We played for a while until Gabe smashed his face into a metal pylon (it's going to be special looking tomorromw) whilst chasing the ball and then we grabbed the washing and went home. Gabe had a supper of pre-prepared stew (Shona again) which I didn't bother liquefying for the first time and he ate it, chunks and all. He also had some blueberries and another half a strawberry yoghurt. We headed up to the shower and thence to bed, asleep by 2130.
