[21:43] Separement - Day 5
We made it! Last day of bachelordom so we cleaned up a little more and the house is looking pretty nice! Got up at 0715 and folded all the washing after reading a couple of TruckTown stories. Had Cheerios, blueberries, beerwurst and Wallaby yoghurt for breakfast then headed to the park for some exercise. Met Sammy over there and did some snack sharing then headed to the shops to top up the snack supplies. Came home and had lunch, the last of the pasta (Shona's getting back just in time) and some watermelon then hit the sack at 12:15. Woke up at 1345 and were doing some last minute vacuuming when Gabe notice what appeared to be a flood on the other side of the road so we went to check it out. It was the Mountain View Public Services Division flushing either a hydrant or the water mains so we watched that for a while and then we noticed that the construction work going on next-door had leaked out onto the street so we watched a Front-End Loader assisting some folks to cover a hole they'd dug in the road and digging up what used to be driveways and dropping it in a flat-bed truck for removal. Once the excitement died down we went to get some flowers then headed to SFO to meet Shona.

We found her and brought her home and everyone lived happily ever after! Except I have to go back to work tomorrow :P

[21:26] Separement - Day 5
A sleep in! Didn't get up until 0815 (woke up and 1240 and I went and slept with him). After a slight wardrobe malfunction (I wondered why it was proving so difficult to get him in there)

We continued on with Operation Cleanup and hit bedrock in both bedrooms, victory! Celebrated with Cheerios and half an allegedly
Australian yoghurt (I remain somewhat baffled by the claim of having a "naturally smooth and creamy Australian-style texture" but, it tastes good so whatever) for breakfast then we headed out to the library. Gabe has been participating in the Mountain View Library's
Make a splash summer reading program [PDF] (Why MTV public library? Why all the PDFs???) and today was the end of the program so we went in to collect his prize. The prizes were a selection of books purchased by the
Friends of the Mountain View Library and we ended up picking the beautifully illustrated
The Classic Treasury of Aesop's Fables. We also borrowed all the available
Trucktown series by the unpronouncable
Jon Scieszka. A friend tipped us off to the existence of the series and gave us
Uh-Oh Max which became Gabe's new favourite book (he's been reading it on the potty). We headed home and had lunch, alfredo pasta again (the gift that keeps on giving) as well as the rest of the yoghurt from breakfast and 8 lychees. Hit the sack and was asleep by 1300.
Woke up at 1415 and didn't want to go back to sleep so we read a few books and briefly talked to Shona - Gabe got a little upset that he could hear her but couldn't see her but he was excited to see her tomorrow. We headed out to see
Cats & Dogs: The Revenge of Kitty Galore, it had an OK pre-feature
Wile E. Coyote and Road Runner cartoon and what I thought was a hilarious James Bond opening-credit spoof for the feature. The theme song is
Get the Party Started by Pink but sung by the amazing
Shirley Bassey (it turns out that she recorded the song for a
spy-themed 2006 Marks & Spencer Christmas television advertising campaign, not the movie. Nonetheless, the visuals that accompanied the tune were great). Gabe made it through exactly one hour of the film itself before he discovered that, due to then gently sloping floor, he could roll his water bottle all the way down the aisle to the curtains at the front of the theatre. This wasn't so much a problem as was the somewhat raucous giggling that ensued when he went to retrieve it and got "stuck" in the curtains. The film looked OK from what we saw of it, nothing super special but it had some amusing one-liners.
We headed to Thaddeus Park to get a bit of exercise and we met Liam and Megan there. Since the stew had run out we decided to go to
Tapatios for dinner with Brian, Megan and Liam. The boys had fun with each other and another family with a gajillion children, Gabe in particular seemed to hit it off with one of the little girls and they spent a while contemplating the universe together.

After we got home Gabe headed straight for his high-chair so, being the super-clued-in Dad that I am, I deduced that he was still hungry. Had some lychees and yoghurt and a glass of milk then headed for bed. Asleep by 2100.

[21:39] Separement - Day 4
Real men drink from the hose
Gabe woke up at 2340 and I went and slept with him for the rest of the night. He was a little tossy and turny but he didn't get up until 0615 so at least 10 hours of sleep, give or take a little. We did some cleaning up (we've got a lot of it stockpiled) then got dressed and had breakfast. It was eggy-things again but he wasn't keen on it today. He had a few pieces then hoed down on some bagel and grapes instead. We watered Gabe and, when a few streams managed to get around him, the garden, then went to OSH to see if we could find one of those sticks that you can balance hoses on. We didn't find one so, since we were in the area, we visited Ghetto Zoo again and traumatised the hamsters and budgies for a little while. We stopped in at Thaddeus Park on the way home but someone was a little sleepy and not really into it. We zoomed home and had a mango and some alfredo pasta for lunch and then Gabe passed out at 1215. He passed back in again at 1250 and I went in to soothe him and accidentaly soothed myself as well and we both got up again at 1445.
After some debate we elected to head to Thaddeus Park and we played with a bunch of people there until 1645. We debated going bowling but decided that it was a little too late so we went to the
Whole Foods in Los Altos. We got a bunch of stuff that we needed and a few things we wanted. We got in line to pay and it turned out that the cashier was a trainee, and she didn't appear to be having a great afternoon. We piled all our stuff up on the conveyor behind the
plastic basket belonging to the person in front of us. Unforunately they basket had holes in it that allowed the sensor to see all the way across th econveyor so it activated itself and rammed the basket into the cash register, not content with this, the conveyer escalated the attack and started propelling all of our shopping into the basket until finally the cash register exploded. We helped to put it back together and to plug all the cables back in but it just wasn't the same so we had to move all our stuff to the next cashier who was very nice and because I was too dense to locate the bin number on the sesame snack things, gave them to us for free. Gabe also scored two sticker sheets and a box of raisins so, all in all, as far as shopping trips go, it was good fun!
We got home and put everything away and ate the last of the stew for dinner (we've set squirrel traps in the garden for tomorrows dinner) and half a large mango. Gabe choked on a bit of mango and hurled up a portion of his dinner but through a valiant effort, managed to keep some of it down and then soldiered on through the other half of the mango and a bowl of blueberries and yoghurt before giving up. Somehow it ended up being 2000 so we headed up for showers but, suddenly, we were confronted by Gabe from the future (we could tell he was from the future by his awesomely futuristic helmet:

Luckily he'd just come to warn us of the perils of late bedtimes so we had showers and hit the sack by 2100.
